Presidential Spokesperson Sunday Dare has reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to strengthening security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States in the ongoing fight against insurgency, terrorism, and other forms of violent extremism threatening national stability.
Speaking on recent developments in bilateral relations, Dare highlighted the importance of strategic collaboration between both nations, noting that intelligence sharing, security cooperation, and joint counter-terrorism efforts remain critical to defeating insurgent groups and criminal networks operating within the region.
According to him, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains focused on restoring peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that Nigeria's territorial integrity and sovereignty are safeguarded against both internal and external threats.
Dare also expressed concern over the growing spread of misinformation and fake news across digital platforms, warning that false narratives have the potential to incite civil unrest, fuel social tensions, and undermine national security.
He urged citizens, media organizations, and social media users to verify information before sharing it, stressing that responsible communication is essential to maintaining peace, unity, and public confidence in democratic institutions.
"The deliberate spread of false information can create unnecessary panic, provoke disorder, and threaten national cohesion. Nigerians must remain vigilant and avoid becoming tools in the dissemination of content capable of destabilizing the country," he stated.
The presidential spokesman further emphasized that national security is a collective responsibility, requiring the cooperation of government agencies, the media, civil society, and citizens alike.
Observers have described the growing security partnership between Nigeria and the United States as a positive step toward enhancing regional stability and strengthening efforts to combat terrorism across West Africa.
The collaboration reflects the shared commitment of both countries to confronting security challenges through intelligence-driven operations, capacity building, and international cooperation.
Many stakeholders have also commended the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President Donald Trump for fostering stronger ties between Nigeria and the United States in pursuit of peace, security, and the defeat of terrorist and insurgent elements threatening both regional and global stability.
